If you are tired of remembering passwords, then Microsoft’s new passwordless sign-in option is just for you. Microsoft has announced that it wants to give users the control to sign in without using a password. This means users will now be able to sign in to their Outlook accounts and OneDrive plans to permanently remove passwords from enterprise accounts.
The passwordless sign-in option was earlier available only for commercial users, but now this feature will be rolled out for all Microsoft accounts. According to TechCrunch, Microsoft wants to stop the password-based sign-in process. The company reportedly wants to protect users from password attacks as passwords are easily guessed. However, users will have to use the Microsoft Authenticator app Windows Hello instead of the password.
What is the meaning of passwordless sign-in
Describing passwordless sign-in, Microsoft explained, “Going passwordless means removing your password and using a passwordless method to sign in instead. Passwordless solutions such as Windows Hello, Microsoft Authenticator app, SMS or email codes, and physical security keys offer a more secure and convenient sign-in method. While passwords can be guessed, stolen or phished, only you can offer fingerprint certification, or offer the right reaction to your mobile at the right time.”
