If you are using Facebook Messenger and Instagram Direct Message (DM), then there is good news for you because now you are going to get an amazing feature of WhatsApp in these apps. After the introduction of this feature, users will be able to get control over their private chats. The name of this feature is end-to-end encryption and no one will be able to read their messages.
In this regard, Facebook has announced that it is giving an option to make voice and video calls end-to-end encrypted as well as updated controls for the expiring messages feature on Messenger. “People expect their messaging apps to be secure and private, and with these new features we’re giving them more control over how they manage their calls and chats,” said Ruth Crickelli, Messenger’s director of product management, in a blog post. You can keep how much you want to keep private.
The company said that since 2016 they have offered the option to secure one-on-one text chats with end-to-end encryption. Over the past year, Messenger saw an increase in audio and video calling usage with over 150 million video calls a day.
We are now introducing end-to-end encryption in calling, in addition to this chat mode, so that you can choose this feature to protect your audio and video calls with this technology, said Krikelli. End-to-end encryption is already widely used by apps like WhatsApp to keep personal conversations safe from hackers and criminals.
The content of your messages and calls is protected in end-to-end encrypted conversations from the moment it transmits your device to the receiver’s device, Facebook said. The company said that it has also updated the expiring messages feature within the end-to-end encrypted chat.
The company can start public testing of this feature in the coming days and some users may get this feature. Facebook further said that in the coming weeks, some people may get more testing features within these fully encrypted chats that will give people more privacy and security in their conversations. We will begin testing end-to-end encryption for group chats, including voice and video calls, to friends and family who already have or are already connected to an existing chat thread, the company said.
The company said it will also launch a limited trial with adults in some countries that lets them opt-in for end-to-end encrypted messages and calls for face-to-face conversations on Instagram.
