Pakistani-Canadian businessman Tahawwur Rana
America has requested the court to extradite the Mumbai attack accused Tahawwur Rana to India. The Joe Biden administration has requested a federal court in Los Angeles to extradite Rana, a Canadian businessman of Pakistani origin, to India. Rana is wanted in India for his involvement in the 2008 Mumbai terror attack. 166 people, including American citizens, were killed in this attack.
59-year-old Tahawwur Rana has been declared a fugitive by India. In India, he is facing several criminal charges for his involvement in the 2008 Mumbai terror attack. 166 people, including six Americans, were killed in the attack. Rana was arrested again in Los Angeles on 10 June 2020 on India’s extradition request. In its submission to the US District Court in Los Angeles, Central District of California, the US government has argued that India has provided sufficient evidence for each of the criminal charges in Rana’s extradition request.
All the requirements for extradition were found to be fulfilled.
Last week, the US lawyer said in his draft resolution presented in court, it was found that all the requirements for certification of extradition have been met. The court authorizes the foreign minister to extradite Tahawwur Hussain Rana and send him to custody. At the same time, Rana’s lawyer has opposed extradition in his proposal. Both the documents were presented before the court on July 15. Rana is wanted on charges of involvement in the 26/11 terrorist attacks in India. In August 2018, a warrant was issued for him in India.
