The European Medicines Agency has approved the Moderna Coronavirus Vaccine for the vaccination of children in Europe.
Moderna’s coronavirus vaccine
The European Medicines Agency on Friday recommended Moderna’s Coronavirus Vaccine to be administered to children aged 12 to 17 years. This is the first time that people under the age of 18 have been authorized to vaccinate. In its decision on Friday, the European drug regulator said that research conducted on more than 3,700 children aged 12 to 17 years has shown that the modern vaccine induces an antibody response in the body. This vaccine has been given to adults throughout Europe.
Until now, the only option was the vaccine developed by Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech, which is being administered to children up to 12 years of age in North America and Europe. At the same time, the US Food and Drug Administration is currently considering whether to extend the use of Moderna Vaccine to the age group of 12 to 17 years. The supply of vaccines in the world is very less. Because of this many countries of the world are facing difficulty for vaccination of their adult population. In such a situation, the World Health Organization (WHO) has said that rich countries should donate vaccine doses to these countries.
Vaccine triggers immune response
Millions of doses of Moderna Vaccine have already been administered to adults. The company says that two doses of the vaccine can protect children from corona. In a study conducted on more than 3700 children between the ages of 12 and 17 years, it was found that the vaccine triggered the immune response. No one in the vaccinated group became infected with COVID-19, compared to four cases between dummy shots. However, in children too, symptoms such as swelling of the arms, headache and dizziness were seen after the vaccination. Such symptoms have also been seen in adult people.
Children’s share in the total corona cases of America is 14 percent
US and European regulators have cautioned that Moderna and Pfizer vaccines have caused an extremely rare reaction in adolescents and young adults. This includes chest pain and swelling in the heart. Children account for 14 percent of the total coronavirus cases reported so far in the US. In America alone, 344 children have died of corona. In America, only a little less than half the population has been fully vaccinated. Let us tell you that Pfizer and Moderna have started trial of their vaccine on children between 11 to 6 months.
