Police have arrested a suspected doctor in connection with the assassination of Haiti President Jovenel Moise. Police say the doctor is the prime suspect in planning and executing the president’s assassination last week. At the same time, a delegation of senior US security and justice officials arrived in Haiti on Sunday to assess the security situation. The team will also meet three Haiti politicians who are claiming to be the country’s legitimate leaders.
Haiti Police said, 63-year-old Haitian Christian Emmanuel Sanon arrived in the country in early June in a private plane. Its intention to come to Haiti was political. Let us tell you that on July 7 President Mois was assassinated at his residence by 28 foreign attackers. His wife was injured in this attack, who was taken to America for treatment. Haiti’s First Lady Martin Mois said the attackers broke into her home and started shooting. He told that this attack happened very quickly, Jovenal Mois could not say a word.
The attackers had come up with a plan to arrest the President
During a police briefing in Port-au-Prince on Sunday, information was given about the arrest of Christian Emmanuel Sanon. Haiti Police Chief Leon Charles said he was a man who entered Haiti on a private plane with political motives. He said the initial plan was to arrest President Moise, but then the mission was changed. Charles told that when the police started catching these attackers after committing the crime, one of the attackers took the name of Christian Emmanuel Sanon. He has contacted two people who may be the masterminds of the murder.
Haiti officials had sought help from the US and the United Nations
At the same time, a team of senior US defense and justice officials arrived in Haiti on Sunday. This team will assess the security situation of the country. The team is also to meet three leaders from Haiti. After the attack on the president, Haiti officials urged the US and the United Nations to protect key places in the country. President Joe Biden’s administration initially rejected the request, but has now decided to take a closer look at the situation. For this reason the team has been sent to Haiti.
