The process of Income Tax Return (ITR) filing has been put on hold for six days after the e-filing website incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in was shut down. It has been stopped from midnight of 31 May 2021. The filing process will start again from June 7. The new e-filing website will be launched on June 6.
According to experts, the new e-filing website is expected to offer these benefits:
mobile application
Along with this, a mobile app will also be developed, which will give access to all the main functions on the mobile network. All the important features of this portal will be made available on the mobile app. There is no mobile app available in the current system.
Instant processing of ITR
The new e-filing portal will be integrated with immediate processing of income tax return. With this, taxpayers will be able to get the benefit of instant refund.
new dashboard
A new single dashboard will be available in the new e-filing portal. The dashboard will show all the uploads etc pending actions for further follow-up.
Interactive ITR software
In this, taxpayers will get free offline and online ITR preparation software. The software will have interactive questions, which will help taxpayers to reduce the effort involved in data entry while pre-filing of returns and filing ITR.
New call center
Systems like call centres, tutorials, video and chatbots or live agents have been included in the website to resolve the grievances of taxpayers. A new call center will be set up to address the queries of taxpayers.

new online tax payment system
To ensure smooth payment process, the new ITR website has a new online payment system with multiple payment options like netbanking. In this, the facility of RTGS or NEFT has been provided from any account of UPI, credit card and taxpayer present in any bank. In the current system, only UPI was a credit card for payment of tax.
