During the time of the Corona epidemic, the trend of work from home increased worldwide, but at the same time the chain of cyber attacks against remote access protocols has also increased in the last year. This thing has been revealed in a new report.
A research by cybersecurity firm Kaspersky showed that the brute force attack against RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) has skyrocketed after starting work from home. This is probably the most popular remote desktop protocol used for accessing Windows or servers. In November of 2020, it has touched a new high with 40.9 million attacks worldwide.
In brute force attacks, attackers keep using different usernames and passwords until they get the right combination and access to corporate resources.
According to Casparsky’s telemetry, when the lockdown took place in March of 2020, the number of brute force attacks against RDP jumped from 9.31 crores recorded in February to 27.74 crores directly. That is, it has increased by 197 percent.
In the context of India, it rose from the number of 13 lakhs in February 2020 to 33 lakhs in the month of March. Monthly it has never been below 30 crores since April. In November last year, a new record has been set with the number of 40.9 million. According to the details, the highest number of attacks recorded in India in July 2020 was estimated at 4.5 million.
Keep these things in mind
If you are going somewhere or are busy for some time during work, then turn off your laptop or computer. With this, keep your phone with you too. Always keep your device locked and if you use different devices, then keep it in one place with you.
Apart from this, do not get into any fraud through any kind of email and social media. Hackers can try to trap you through phishing and email, so be careful not to get into such an affair.
