Farmers in Brussels have sprayed police with manure and pelted them with bottles and eggs to protest what they are saying is the growing unsustainability of their jobs.
Tyres have been set alight, and roads blocked with tractors, “causing gridlock in the city centre”, in demonstrations timed to coincide with a close-by assembly of EU agriculture ministers to debate their issues.
Monday’s clashes are the most recent in a collection of rallies and demonstrations by farmers throughout Europe.
Brussels police stated that 900 tractors had entered the town, many heading for the European Council constructing the place the ministers have been gathered.
Officers in riot gear, some behind concrete boundaries and barbed wire, fired water cannons and tear gasoline at protesters as they defended the EU’s headquarters.

He stated he noticed protesters throwing eggs, and dozens of fireworks, at officers, whereas their tractors had “brought gridlock to the centre of Brussels.
“Farmers say their jobs have gotten unsustainable, prices are going up, however the costs they obtain are staying the identical, and so they cannot cope with low cost imports from locations like Ukraine or commerce agreements.
