Indo-Americans in Biden’s Cabinet: Joe Biden, the 46th President of the United States, has given place to 20 Americans of Indian origin in his cabinet. 13 of them are women. Talking about the top position in Joe Biden’s cabinet, Kamala Harris has been elected as Vice President. Kamala Harris will become the first female Vice President of American history. Indo-American people included in Biden’s cabinet include two women of Indian Kashmiri origin. This is the first time this has happened in American history. .
These Indian-Americans got a place in the Biden cabinet
- Kamala Harris- Kamala Harris plays the Vice President in the Badden government. His mother Shyamala Gopal is from Tamil Nadu and her father is of Jamaican origin. Kamala’s mother went to Berkeley University to study.
- Neera Tandon- Neera Tandon is the head of the Democrat-leaning thinktank Center for American Congress. He has been nominated to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) director in the White House.
- Vivek Murthy – Dr. Murthy has been nominated to the US Surgeon General. He was also serving in the post of President of Obama. Murthy is the deputy head of Biden’s COVID-19 Advisory Board. It is expected that he will play a big role as a top health expert in dealing with the epidemic.
- Ayesha Shah- For the first time, two people of Kashmir origin are included in the American cabinet – Ayesha Shah and Sameera Fazili. Shah has been nominated as a partnership manager in the White House Office of Digital Strategy.
- Sameera Fazili Apart from Ayesha Shah, another Kashmir-origin woman, Sameer Fazili has found a place in the US cabinet. Community and development expert Fazili has been nominated for the position of deputy director in the US National Economic Council (NEC). Fazili has previously worked as a Senior Advisor in the US Treasury Department and Senior Policy Advisor in the White House’s NEC.
- Bharat Ramamurthy A person of Indian origin has got a place in the NEC. Ramamurthy, who served as Elizabeth Warren’s Economic Advisor during the 2020 presidential election campaign, has been nominated as deputy director of the NEC for Financial Reform and Consumer Protection.
- Ujra Jeya- Ujra Jeya, an Indian-American diplomat who resigned from the Foreign Service in 2018 against Trump’s policies, has found a place in the Biden cabinet. He has been nominated as the Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights of the Department of State.
- Vanita Gupta- Vanita Gupta was nominated for Associate Attorney General of America. She will be the first black woman to hold the post after getting approval from the Senate. While announcing her name, Biden said that Vanita Gupta is one of America’s most respected civil rights lawyers. Prior to this, she has been the head of the Civil Rights Division during Obama’s presidency.
- Sumona cavity- Sumona Guha has been nominated for the post of South Asian Senior Director of the National Security Council. Guha has worked in the US India Business Council and has previously held the post of Secretary of the States Policy Planning Staff for South Asia.
- Tarun Chhabra- Tarun Chhabra has been nominated for the post of Senior Director of Technology and National Security in the National Security Council. He is a Senior Fellow at the Center for Security and Emerging Technology at Georgetown University. Chhabra has worked as director of strategic planning in the National Security Council during Obama’s presidency.
- Shanti Kalathil- Shanti Kalathil, Senior Director at the International Forum for Democratic Studies of the National Endowment for Democracy, has been nominated to the National Security Council as Co-ordinator of Democracy and Human Rights.
- Gautam Raghavan- Raghavan, who served as the Chief of Staff of US Public Representative Pramila Jaipal, has been nominated as deputy director in the Office of President’s Personal. He has worked as an advisor to the Biden Foundation and has been the policy vice president of the Gill Foundation, one of the oldest and largest private foundations for LGBTQ equality.
- Mala Adiga- Mala Adiga has been appointed as the policy director of First Lady Dr. Jill Biden. He belongs to the family of Arvind Adiga, who won the Man Booker Prize in 2008.
- Vinay Reddy- Vinay Reddy has been nominated as the director of Speechwriting in the White House. Reddy Biden-Harris has held responsibility as a senior campaign consultant and speechwriter. Reddy has long been an associate of Biden.
- Vedanta Patel- Vedanta Patel has been elected as the Assistant Press Secretary of the White House Communications and Press Office. He is currently a senior spokesperson for Biden’s Inaugural Committee. Patel has worked as communications director for Indian-American Congresswoman Pramila Jaipal.
- Sabrina Singh- Sabrina Singh has been appointed as the press secretary of the Vice President’s office. She is the first person of Indian origin to reach this position. In 2016, 32-year-old Sabrina served as the regional communications director for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. Apart from this, she has also been a spokesperson of the Democratic National Committee. His grandfather JJ Singh fought for Indian independence. He moved to America in 1946 and struggled to gain citizenship of Indians there.
- Garima Verma- Garima Verma has been nominated as Digital Director in the office of First Lady. She has worked for marketing films at Paramount Pictures and television programs at the Walt Disney Company’s ABC Network. Garima Verma has worked as a freelancer in marketing, design and digital for small businesses and NGOs.
- Sonia Aggarwal- Energy and climate expert Sonia Agarwal has been nominated as Senior Advisor for Climate Policy and Innovation in the Office of Domestic Climate Policy. In the Obama administration, Sonia Aggarwal had united 200 power policy experts for energy innovation and led America’s power plan.
- Neha Gupta- Neha Gupta, who worked as Deputy City Attorney in the City Attorney Office of San Francisco, has been nominated as Associate Council in the White House Council Office. Neha Gupta has studied at Harvard College and Stanford Law School.
- Reema Shah- Reema Shah has been nominated as deputy associate council in the White House Council’s office. Shah has been involved in the team preparing to debate for Biden during the election campaign. Shah was an Associate at Latham & Watkins and worked as a Bristow Fellow in the Office of the Solicitor General of the Department of Justice.
