SpiceJetplain is shopping for seaplanes from the Maldives. It is estimated that by October 26, 12 passengers will be able to sit in the 19-seater plane.
The country’s first seaplane service can start at the end of this month. Union Minister Mansukh Mandviya said that if everything goes according to plan, then seaplane service will start on 31 October. The seaplane service will operate from the Sabarmati Riverfront to the Statue of Unity. The service can be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
SpiceJet is purchasing a seaplane from the Maldives for this service. The seaplane is expected to arrive by 26 October. The seaplane will operate between a distance of about 205 km. 31 October is the birthday of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Tourism will get a boost
Mandviya said that the service provider SpiceJet will be given benefits under the UDAN scheme. This service will boost tourism. The 19 seat seaplane will seat 12 passengers. Four flights will operate from both sides during the day. The fare for a passenger ticket will be around Rs 4,800.
There are plans to start service on many other routes as well
In July this year, the Government of Gujarat approved a proposal for the construction of 4 water aerodrome for seaplane service under the Regional Connectivity Scheme. These water aerodromes were planned to be built at Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad, Sardar Sarovar Dam in Kevadia in Narmada District, Shatranji Dam in Palitana in Bhavnagar District and Dhaori Dam in Mehsana District. After the commencement of the Sabarmati Riverfront-State of Liberty Seaplane Service, there are plans to start this service on several other routes as well, Mandviya said. These include Tupper Dam in Andaman and Nicobar, Guwahati, Yamuna and Uttarakhand.
