Afghanistan today again stands at the same crossroads as it was 20 years ago. After more than two decades of struggle, the clouds of crisis are looming over his future again. After the 9/11 attacks, then US President George W Bush sent his army to Afghanistan to eliminate al-Qaeda. Since then, America has been continuously fighting a war with the Taliban in Afghanistan.
During this, three presidents changed after Bush in America. Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and Donald Trump were presidents. But the situation did not change. In the last few months, violence in Afghanistan has increased even more. But the Taliban could not come under control. America’s new President Joe Biden has meanwhile announced the withdrawal of his troops from Afghanistan. Biden is assuring that Afghanistan will not be allowed to become a terrorist’s paradise again. But the current situation is raising concerns. The Taliban have captured a large part of Afghanistan. The Afghan army appears to be very weak in front of the Taliban fighters. After all, why did the Afghan army fail even after spending billions of dollars for two decades, let us know.
America spent $8800 million
US President Joe Biden announced the withdrawal of his troops, saying, ‘This is the end of America’s longest war. Now it’s time for American soldiers to return home. However, Biden has said that he will continue to help the Afghan army. Meanwhile, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said that the Afghan army is capable of protecting its border and civilians. According to BCfocus News, in the last two decades, the US has provided $ 8800 million in aid to Afghanistan for security. This year alone, $ 300 million was spent in the name of security.
Then why did the Afghan army fail?
Even after spending billions of dollars on the security of Afghanistan, the Afghan army still has not been able to control the Taliban. There is a dearth of good leadership and qualified officers in the army. A US military general who trained the Afghan army said, ‘The sad thing is that the cake is still not fully cooked. Our patience has now paid off. All of us have unanimously decided to return. Our return may cause problems in many places. This Afghan army is not ready.
Salary also not received on time
The American commander told that there is a severe lack of good leadership in the Afghan army. Soldiers do not even get salary time. Many Afghan army soldiers have been killed in the war with the Taliban. Because of this, their morale has also dropped considerably. The Taliban claim to have captured 80 percent of Afghanistan.
America will remain active outside Afghanistan
Joe Biden also said that the US would continue its campaign against terrorism from outside Afghanistan. Biden has also indicated that he may deploy his fighter planes in Pakistan, Tajikistan or the Gulf of Gulf. The Taliban has still not severed ties with the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda. This is an important condition of the treaty between the US and the Taliban. The US Air Force has been targeting al-Qaeda terrorists in Helmand province. Former CIA director General David Petraeus has led the US military in Afghanistan. He says that terrorist activities here still remain a matter of concern. After the withdrawal of American troops, it will become more difficult to keep an eye on the terrorists.
