Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has asked America and its allies to wake up in view of the threat posed by Iran. Actually, this statement of Bennett has come because talks are going on again in Vienna regarding the nuclear deal with Iran. Bennett said, Iran’s ‘brutal executioner’ regime wants nuclear weapons. However, Tehran has been denying such allegations.
On Sunday, talks were held between Iran and diplomats of five of the world’s most powerful countries to re-implement the historic 2015 nuclear deal with the aim of controlling Iran’s nuclear program. But Israel has opposed this agreement from the beginning. A new President has been elected in Iran as Ibrahim Raisi. Raisi is known for his radical views. Ibrahim Raisi has been banned by the US and he has been accused of taking revenge on political prisoners.
Iran is violating the agreement
The six signatories to the nuclear deal have been in discussions since April to revive the deal. Signatories include the United States, Britain, France, China, Russia, Russia and Germany. Under the deal, Iran must reduce its nuclear activities in exchange for the lifting of sanctions. However, Iran has been continuously violating the agreement since former US President Donald Trump unilaterally pulled his country out of this agreement.
Why is Israel opposing the nuclear deal?
Iran and Israel have been in a long-running ‘shadow war’, as a result of which the two countries have participated in some sort of action. But both sides have so far avoided all-out conflict. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has consistently said that he wants the complete elimination of Israel. In 2018, he said Israel was a “cancerous tumour” that had to be eradicated from the region.
Israel sees Iran as a major threat and has repeatedly insisted that Tehran wants to develop nuclear weapons. Prime Minister Bennett told his cabinet that this is the last chance for world powers to wake up and understand what they are dealing with. He said that the regime of cruel executioners should never be allowed to possess weapons of mass destruction.
