Life on Planets: Apart from Mars, the US space agency NASA is also exploring the possibilities of life on planets like Venus and Saturn. A NASA-funded study has found the answer to the question of what kind of planets life can be possible on. The study states that exoplanetary planets with slight inclination on their axis like Earth (the planets that lie outside the attacking solar system) are likely to have complex life due to the ability of an oxygen-rich atmosphere.
The first exoplanet was discovered in the year 1992, about 30 years ago it was believed that many factors depend for life on a planet. The planet must be in the Goldlock region, so that there is a presence of water and there must be oxygen in the atmosphere for advanced life like Earth. A model was prepared in this study, in which the conditions due to which life flourishes on Earth (Life on Planets in Our Solar System). It also focused on how conditions would change through varying amounts of oxygen for photosynthesis life.
Important information getting from the model
In a statement, lead author of the study Stephanie Olson, who worked at Purude University in Indiana, said: ‘With this model, we can learn a lot by changing the situation (Life on Another Planet Found). Like we are able to change the time of day and the environment. We are also analyzing how the distribution of land drives oxygen-producing life processes in the marine environment and oceans. Three factors can increase the oxygen level on the planet – a long day, high surface pressure and plate tectonics forming continents.
Over 4700 exoplanet discovered
All these can affect the circulation pattern of the ocean and the nutrients associated with it. Researchers believe that this helps in maintaining the oxygen level of the earth. The study was presented at the 2021 Goldschmidt Geochemistry Conference. So far studies show that more than 4700 exoplanet have been discovered in 3500 planetary systems. Of these, more than 800 have more than one planet. A study published last month found that there is only one planet in the Milky Way Galaxy, named Kepler-442b, that receives enough smoke from its star to form a biosphere with ‘oxygen’ photosynthesis.
