Indian-origin aeronautical engineer Sirisha Bandla flew to space on Sunday. The twin-fuselage Whitenight Carrier Aircraft of the spacecraft company Virgin Galactic was launched at 8 pm Indian time from ‘Spaceport America’ in New Mexico, USA. The company’s founder Richard Branson, three crew members and two pilots are also involved in this flight. This aircraft will take VSS Unity to space.
This mission will be accomplished by the spaceship VSS Unity, built by Branson’s company. The VSS will separate from the Unity aircraft after going 50,000 feet or 15 kilometers above the Earth. It will then start its engine for the onward journey and move on to the Mack 3. At an altitude of more than 50 miles or 80 kilometers, Mack 3 is considered the edge of space by US agencies.
Astronauts will stay in space for a few minutes
Astronauts will feel weightlessness after reaching the altitude. He will also be able to see the shape of the earth from the 17 windows of the ship. This journey will last for a few minutes, after which the ship will re-enter the atmosphere and return to the landing strip at Spaceport America. Let us tell you that VSS Unity is a private jet shaped spacecraft. Branson’s official role is to evaluate the personal astronaut experience to enhance travel for future customers.
Nearly 600 tickets have already been sold to people from 60 different countries, including Hollywood celebrities. Ticket prices range from $ 200,000 to $ 250,000 i.e. around 1.5 crore rupees to more than one crore 86 lakh rupees. The main purpose of the journey on which Richard Branson has gone is to send people on space travel in the future. Even before this, the company has done many tests.
Sirisha Bandla to conduct scientific experiments
This is Unity’s 22nd flight and the fourth launch to space. Sirisha Bandla of Indian origin will conduct scientific experiments at different levels of flight. The job of the company’s Chief Astronaut Trainer is to ensure that everyone stays safe. At present, six people have been sent through Unity 22 flight. Although eight people can board this spacecraft.
