A 36-year-old Sikh man of Indian origin was also among the eight people killed in Railyard Firing in the US state of California. ‘The Mercury News’ reported on Thursday that Tapatzip Singh, born in India and raised in Union City, California, has a wife, a three-year-old son and a one-year-old daughter. The Sikh Community in the San Francisco Bay Area called him a ‘help and care’ person.
Fellow employees of the Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) called Singh a ‘hero’ and said that he went out of an office room where some other co-workers were hiding to protect others. Samuel Cassidy (57), a VTA employee, shot and killed eight employees working with him on Wednesday and seriously injured another. This is one of the deadliest incidents of firing in California this year.
Bullet shot while saving a woman
On reaching the scene of the police, the attacker shot and committed suicide. Singh was a light rail operator in the VTA for the last nine years. They worked in a building separate from the one where most of the dead were found. This indicates that Cassidy had chosen those whom he targeted.
PJ Bath, another light operator in the VTA itself and a relative of Singh, confirmed that Hamavalar and Singh were initially in separate buildings but did not say that the attacker had already selected those whom He targeted Singh’s brother Bagga Singh said that he was told that his brother got shot while saving a woman.
We lost a good person
Bagga said that Singh could be considered a hero but he should have saved his life as well. We have lost a good person. Emotional scenes were witnessed at the Red Cross Center in the city where the families of the victims gathered after the incident. The motive behind the shootout is not yet known.
Minutes after the incident, Cassidy’s house, about 13 km from the VTA office, was reported to have caught fire. The fire was extinguished after an hour of hard work. Police said that a separate investigation is going on in this case.
