The command of the United Nations Security Council will be in the hands of his country for a month. India will take over the presidency of the 15-member UN Security Council on August 1. This is India’s first presidency during the 2021-22 term as a non-permanent member of the Security Council. During this, India will also host signature events on key issues such as maritime security, peacekeeping exercises and counter-terrorism. India will again chair the Security Council in December next year.
India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations TS Tirumurti said through a video message on the eve of assuming the presidency, ‘We will celebrate our 75th Independence Day in August, it is an honor for us to chair the Security Council in the same month.’ India’s two-year term as a non-permanent member of the Security Council began on January 1, 2021.
India will make a solid strategy on terrorism
While chairing the UN Security Council, India will pay special attention to sensitive issues like maritime security, peacekeeping and terrorism. By organizing programs on these issues, a concrete strategy will also be made. India is to hold several events related to the Secretary General’s report on ISIL during the Security Council presidency next month.
India has been raising its voice against terrorism
Tirumurti had said on Thursday, “India has been emphasizing on fighting terrorism both within and outside the Council. We have not only strengthened efforts to fight terrorism, especially the financing of terrorism, but we have also stopped attempts to dilute the focus on terrorism.
India told Pakistan a safe haven of terrorists
Earlier this year, India said the Secretary General’s report on Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) included banned organizations under ISIL and al-Qaeda such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and other Pakistani terrorist groups such as Jaish-e-Taiba. -Mohammed’s activities should also be included. “The world is fully aware that these terrorist groups carry out terrorist activities from safe havens in Pakistan, including violent attacks in Afghanistan that disrupted the peace process,” the Indian envoy told a Security Council conference in February.
Emphasizing on India’s role in recent months on terrorism-related issues, Tirumurti said on the global counter-terrorism strategy, India played a very active role in shaping the final outcome of this strategy.
