    UK sanctions Iran's morality police following death of Mahsa Amini

    UK sanctions have been positioned on senior Iranian safety and political figures – and the so-called morality police – following the demise of Mahsa Amini in custody.

    The 22-year-old died whereas in custody final month after being detained for alleged violations of the nation’s strict gown code.

    In response, the UK has sanctioned the nation’s morality police in its entirety, in addition to each its chief Mohammed Rostami Cheshmeh Gachi and the top of the Tehran division Haj Ahmed Mirzaei.

    The UK can be imposing sanctions at present on 5 main political and safety officers in Iran for committing critical human rights violations.

    These embrace:

    • Gholamreza Soleimani, the top of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Basij pressure
    • Hassan Karami, the commander of the NAJA Special Forces Unit of the Iranian police
    • Hossein Ashtari, the commander-in-chief of the Iranian police

    Foreign Secretary James Cleverly stated: “The UK stands with the people of Iran who are bravely calling for accountability from their government and for their fundamental human rights to be respected.

    “These sanctions ship a transparent message to the Iranian authorities – we’ll maintain you to account to your repression of girls and ladies and for the stunning violence you’ve gotten inflicted by yourself folks.”
