The United Arab Emirates (UAE) ambassador to the US says that his country has played an important role in reducing tensions between India and Pakistan. Ambassador Yousef al-Otaiba says the UAE’s role has been instrumental in bringing bilateral relations to a working level. He said, ‘They might not be very good friends. But we want to bring it at least to such a level, where both countries would talk to each other. On 25 February, India and Pakistan announced that all the ceasefire agreements on the LOC would be strictly followed. Al-Otaiba himself raised the issue while answering a question himself and acknowledged his role of reducing tension. India and Pakistan had said in a declaration on 25 February that they had agreed to strictly abide by all ceasefire agreements along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir and other areas.
Government of India did not reply
There were reports in the media that the backdoor talks were taking place between the two countries. But Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi did not give any direct answer in this regard. On April 9, he said that our High Commission is working in this direction. On the same day, the spokesman of Pakistan’s Foreign Office denied any behind-the-scenes talks with India.
Relations have deteriorated since the Pathankot attack
Negotiations between India and Pakistan have been closed since the attack on Pathankot airbase in 2016. This attack was carried out by the terrorists who thrived on the land of the neighboring country. At the same time, the relationship between the two countries deteriorated further after the attack on the Uri camp of the Indian Army. Then in February 2019, 40 soldiers were killed in the attack on CRPF in Pulwama. After this, India retaliated by entering inside Pakistan on 26 February 2019 and destroyed the whereabouts of Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist organization in Balakot.
