    Three males tried to take their very own lives after being falsely accused of rape, a courtroom has heard.

    Eleanor Williams accused the trio and others of attacking her and in May 2020 she posted on Facebook she was the sufferer of an Asian grooming gang, together with pictures of accidents the prosecution claims had been self-inflicted with a hammer.

    The girl’s allegations led to an “unprecedented outcry” and protests in her hometown of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, in public shows of mass anger not seen there for greater than 30 years, stated police.

    There had been 151 further crimes following the social media submit, together with 83 hate crimes, Preston Crown Court heard.

    Some companies shut and members of the group left their properties due to the outcry, the police added.

    Williams, 22, is ready to be taught her destiny at a sentencing listening to after being convicted of perverting the course of justice in January this 12 months.

    He stated he tried to take his life two weeks after being arrested over Williams’ claims and added: “I still bear the scars to this day.”

    Mr Ramzan stated he had “countless death threats” on social media from individuals “all over the world”.

    His property was broken and his companies had been “ruined” after he and his household had been focused “in the most horrendous way”, Mr Ramzan instructed the courtroom.

    Another man, Jordan Trengove, stated: “The lowest point was when I tried to end my life in August 2020.”

    He stated in a press release to the courtroom that after Williams alleged he raped her, the phrase “rapist” was spray painted on his home and his window was smashed.

    After he was charged, he stated he spent 73 days in jail, sharing a cell with a convicted intercourse offender.

    A 3rd man, Oliver Gardner, stated his likelihood encounter with Williams in Preston led to him being sectioned below the Mental Health Act.

    Mr Gardner, who was accused of rape after he met Williams within the metropolis centre, stated it was a “real shock” when he was contacted by police and instructed of her claims.

    He stated: “It was just a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

    In his assertion, he stated he tried to finish his life earlier than being sectioned. He added: “This whole period in my life has been totally overwhelming.”

    Defending Williams, Louise Blackwell KC stated: “Miss Williams continues in her allegations against the various people in pretty much the same circumstances.”

    On Tuesday, the defendant is because of be sentenced for 9 offences of doing acts tending and meant to pervert the course of justice.
