Violence has been going on in Afghanistan since the beginning of the withdrawal of US security forces. This is the reason why the Afghan government and the Taliban are going to make peace in Qatar.
Peace talks to take place amid continuing violence in Afghanistan
A high-powered delegation of the Afghan government is to hold a meeting with the Taliban in Doha. The purpose of this meeting is to start the long-interrupted peace process. The head of the country’s reconciliation council will also be included in the delegation. An Afghan official said on the condition of anonymity on Tuesday that senior Taliban leaders could come for talks and that the meeting could possibly take place on Friday. The political office of the Taliban is located in Doha, the capital of Qatar.
This exercise to reach a peace agreement is taking place at a time when America is withdrawing its troops from Afghanistan. Outgoing US commander General Scott Miller recently warned that escalating violence would seriously affect Afghanistan’s chances of ending decades of war peacefully. At the same time, Taliban fighters have captured large parts of the country. It is not yet known how many districts are under Taliban control, but it is believed that more than a third of Afghanistan’s 421 districts are under Taliban rule. Many of these districts are strategically important and share borders with Iran, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
The aim of the talks is to end the violence.
The Doha talks will be headed by senior government official Abdullah Abdullah, who heads the Afghanistan Reconciliation Council. Former President Hamid Karzai is also expected to be involved in this. The aim of this talks is to end the violence that has increased since the US signed a deal with the Taliban in February last year. Karzai called on the government not to miss the chance for peace. He also expressed hope that one day a woman would become president in Afghanistan and urged women to continue pursuing their jobs and education.
Many countries are closing their embassies
Thousands of Afghan citizens are trying to leave the country amid growing uncertainty about the future. At the same time, France urged its citizens to leave Afghanistan and announced that it was arranging a special plane on Saturday to evacuate them from Kabul. There is no indication yet whether the French embassy will be closed. Australia has closed its embassy. The US has reduced its embassy staff and said it has no plans to vacate the embassy and has announced the resumption of a visa facility that was temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic .
