Flydubai Flight Crash: There have been many such accidents in history, which are difficult to forget even after wanting for a long time. A similar incident also happened with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Airlines Fly Dubai. Aircraft number 981 was to land at Rostov-on-Don Airport in Russia after taking flight from Dubai International Airport. But before that, I became the victim of a plane crash, in which a large number of people died. The deceased included both passengers and crew members.
This incident happened on today’s day i.e. 19 March, 2016 (19 March History). This Boeing 737-800 aircraft crashed due to poor landing. Due to which 62 people died. Of these, 55 were passengers and 7 were crew members. Among the passengers, 44 people, including four children, were citizens of Russia. Eight were from Ukraine, two from India (Indians in Plane Crash) and three were citizens of Uzbekistan. 30 passengers came for tours on behalf of Russia’s largest tour operator Nataly Tours.
Landing did not take place even on two attempts
The aircraft flew at night and the weather was bad in Rostov at that time. The pilot had decided to land first but the landing could not take place. The aircraft then flew for about two hours in a similar holding pattern (moving around there) before the second attempt at landing (Flydubai Flight Incident). Then the aircraft failed to land for the second time and fell down sharply during the go-around process (flying overhead). After this, the plane crashed on the runway itself.
This was the first time such an accident
Fly Dubai is the UAE’s state-run airline, which is considered to be much cheaper. Earlier, no airline of the airline had fallen victim to such a fatal accident and has a good safety record. In the year 2015 too, Fly Dubai passed the safety audit of IATA (Flydubai Flight 981 Air Crash Investigation). Along with this, she was an official member of the organization till a few days before the crash. After the crash, Fly Dubai pilots expressed concern over fatigue due to a busy schedule. On the condition of anonymity to BBC News, a pilot said that the staff had very little time to rest in the middle of the shift.
Operations started from 2009
The pilots also shared this concern with a senior member of staff. However, the official had said, “There is no problem with fatigue in Fly Dubai”. Fly Dubai started operations in 2009 and has grown rapidly. By the end of 2015, it had flown to 100 locations, 11 of which were in Russia. Fly Dubai started flight service to Rosto-Or-Don in September 2013 (Flydubai Flight 981 Crash Incident). Which had two flights per week. Another employee told that 25 out of 600 active pilots resigned from the airline in 2016. One reason behind his resignation was excessive fatigue. On these allegations, Fly Dubai said that ‘we are not able to share confidential information of our employees.
What was the reason for the accident?
Investigators investigated the wreck until March 20, a few days after the accident. Experts from both countries started analyzing radar data, flight crew ATC-communication and meteorological information. After recovering both the aircraft recorders from the accident site, they were sent to the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC) in Moscow. Subsequently, on 26 November 2019, the IAC published the final report (Flydubai Flight fz981 Crashes on Landing at Rostov-On-Don). Which said that there was a flaw in the design of the aircraft. It was also said that the crew piloting was not good and the relevant information was not properly taken care of at night. That is, the pilot’s mistake was said to be the reason for the accident. The aircraft had fuel to fly for 8.5 hours, but it only flew for six hours before the crash.
