Indian Covid Variant Found in Sri Lanka: The first case of Indian variant (B.1.617) of Coronavirus has been found in Sri Lanka. This case has come up in a person recently returned from India. This person was staying at the Isolation Center in Colombo. The report released on Saturday by the Department of Disease Immunity and Molecular Medicine of Sreejavardhneepura University said that the infected person came from India and was staying in an isolation center in Colombo designed for those coming back.
According to the report of Colombo Gadget, this person’s sample was collected along with many other samples till 30 April. In an official statement, information about other variants of the virus found so far in Sri Lanka (Variants of Coronavirus) has also been shared. The maximum 19 people died in Sri Lanka on a single day due to Corona virus infection on Friday. So far 764 patients have died due to this deadly virus in the country.
Britain said ‘worrying variants’
A day before this, Britain also described this Indian variant as worrisome. Public Health England (PHE) here has said that one of the three variants found in India, B1.617.2 (Indian Covid Variant B1617) is more dangerous. It is more contagious and fast spreading than the remaining two variants B.1.617 and B.1.617.3. These two variants are still being researched. In India too, these variants are being blamed for the second deadly wave of corona virus. Here 3 lakh to 4 lakh or more cases are being reported in the last few days and a record number of patients are dying.
B.1.617.2 is less contagious than the cant variant
In the data released by the PHE, it has been said that a total of 500 samples are being researched, including 61 samples of B.1.617. However, some experts have described B.1.617.2 as less infectious than the Cant variant of Britain Covid Variant found in Britain. Along with this, it has been said in the report that no such evidence has been found so far, which can prove that the vaccine will not work on Indian COVID variants.
