According to reports from the Italian news agency ANSA, 66-year-old Salvatore Scumes is now being investigated for fraud, extortion and abuse of office. Investigation is also going on against the six managers of the hospital. These people are accused that they did not take any effective steps during the absence of the scumes. Also, no action was taken against him. Information about this case came to light when the police was investigating another case of fraud and absenteeism. Such cases continue to be widely reported in the Italian public sector.
Because of this, the accused has been saved from the eyes of the people for 15 years
The investigation conducted by the police was given the ‘Part Time’ code name. In this investigation, the police took testimony from other employees of the hospital and looked at the attendance and salary records. Investigation revealed that this person had allegedly threatened the hospital director in 2005 to file a disciplinary report against him. The director later retired and the scumes continued to be absent. The reason behind this was the Human Resource Department and the new director did not pay attention to this matter. The department and the director never even noticed that the scumes were not coming on duty. On the other hand, Scumes continued to enjoy salary.
Many such cases came up in sting operation and investigation
In 2016, a large-scale sting operation and investigation was conducted in Italy, which revealed that a large number of people in the public sector of the country are absent from work and they get paid. After this, the then Prime Minister of Italy Matteo Renji brought a new law to stop this crime. However, the investigation has continued even after this and such cases keep coming up.
