A 19-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a pupil who was fatally stabbed in Manchester.
Luke O’Connor, 19, died in hospital after he was attacked in Wilmslow Road, Fallowfield, at about 2am on Wednesday.
A 19-year-old man was detained within the space on Friday night and is being questioned.
Superintendent Helen Critchley, of City of Manchester South district, stated: “The arrest of a 19-year-old suspect on Friday night is an important step in our investigation which is moving at pace.
“Since the tragic killing of Luke our investigation workforce has made important progress as we do all we will to get justice for Luke’s household who we’re persevering with to help at this devastating time.
“There are still a number of inquiries being conducted to establish what happened in the early hours of Wednesday, but what is clear is that this was a senseless and needless loss of a promising young life that has shocked our student community and we are doing all we can to support them too.”
Mr O’Connor was a second yr enterprise administration pupil at Manchester Metropolitan University and his household described him as “truly one of a kind, whose presence would light up any room”.

In a press release on Thursday, they stated: “Our hearts yearn for the loss of Luke; we are truly devastated by this tragedy.
“Luke was beloved by so many individuals, and he knew how a lot he was beloved in return.
“He loved the freedom of student living and studying and was loving life in Manchester.
“Luke was the youngest of three boys in our household and was a mild big with massive hopes and goals for the long run.
“His biggest dream was to travel the world, but now Luke will never be able to fulfil that dream.”
