Tanzania’s President John Magufuli has died at the age of 61. Vice President of Tanzania Samia Suluhu has confirmed the death of President Magufuli. There is a possibility of Magufuli becoming infected with the corona, though it has not been confirmed yet. Magufuli has not been seen in any public function for more than two weeks. In such a situation, many rumours were spread about his health.
Magufuli was elected a Member of Parliament in the year 1995. In 2010, he took over as Tanzania’s Transport Minister. His sharp leadership style and fight against corruption in the road construction industry was well received by the people. Due to this, his name was called Bulldozer.
Magufuli was re-elected President in 2020
John Magufuli was appointed as the President for the first time in 2015. After this, he was re-elected President in 2020. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated John Magufuli for taking oath as President of Tanzania. PM Modi said that he was ready to strengthen the friendship between the two countries. Magufuli was sworn in as President for a second five-year term.
Allegations of massive rigging in elections
Magufuli was declared the winner of this election with 84 percent votes. Magufuli had said in a statement that there were some challenges during the election but this election remained safe and peaceful. This will be my second and final term in the presidency. The opposition parties had demanded a repeat of the election on October 28, accusing them of rigging the election.
