Bomb Blast in Kabul
Afghanistan Taliban War: At least eight people have been killed and 20 injured in a bomb attack targeting Afghanistan’s acting defense minister. The minister is safe though. Officials have given this information on Wednesday. The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack (Afghanistan Taliban Bomb). Officials said the blast occurred on Tuesday in a high-security area near the Afghan capital, Kabul. Four terrorists were killed in the encounter that followed the blast.
Interior ministry spokesman Mirwaiz Stanekzai said on Wednesday that the death toll could rise. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid issued a statement claiming responsibility for the attack (Afghanistan Taliban Breaking News). The attack comes at a time when the terrorist group Taliban has stepped up its offensive and kept pressure on provincial capitals in the south and west parts of the country. The Mujahid said in a statement that the attack was carried out in retaliation for recent attacks by Afghan national forces in various provinces.
Stanekzai said the attack appeared to have targeted the guest house of caretaker Defense Minister Bismillah Khan Mohammadi, adding that the minister was safe. A leader of his party Jamiat-e-Islami informed that the minister was not at home at the time of the incident and his family members were safely evacuated. Stanekzai said four attackers were killed in the five-hour gunfight. He said the blast took place in Sherpur area which is one of the most secure areas of the capital (Afghanistan Taliban Conflict). Many senior government officials live here.
Hundreds of people were evacuated
Several hours after the incident, a video was released by the Defense Ministry in which Mohammadi said that his security personnel were injured in the suicide attack (Afghanistan Taliban War). A spokesman for the Kabul police chief said hundreds of people had been evacuated from the area. The security personnel conducted door-to-door searches after the incident. The United Nations Security Council on Tuesday strongly condemned attacks on civilians and incidents of terrorism in Afghanistan, while protesting the Taliban’s attempts to seize power.
