Spiders Eating Snakes All Over The Planet: A shocking news has come about spiders. In a new scientific study, it is being claimed that they are eating and killing snakes. Spider expert Martin Niefeller of Basil University in Switzerland and Whit Field Gibbons, a veterinarian from the University of Georgia, have given this information. They have seen at least 300 such cases in which a spider has killed and eaten a snake. The study has been published in the Journal of Arachnology.
Experts say that 40 types of spider species can eat 90 types of snakes. ‘I was surprised to learn that many species of spiders can kill and eat snakes,’ says Niefeller. These incidents of snake-killing spiders have been seen in every continent except Antarctica (Study on Spiders). Half of such incidents have occurred in North America and 30 percent have occurred in Australia. The most snake-eating spiders belong to the Therididae, which also includes the black widow spiders. They are small in appearance, but can weave very tight webs.
How do spiders hunt snakes?
Spider weaves such a web, in which snakes get trapped. Then she bites the snake with her poisonous teeth. Whereas the snake is not in a position to use its hood. After this the snakes stop moving and become the food of spiders by getting caught in the net (Spiders Eating Snakes). Spiders can liquefy the inside of an animal’s body and drink its juice. Due to which they survive for several days or weeks. So in such a situation, snake proves to be a better food for them. When an experiment was conducted, it was found that 319 spiders were able to kill the snake 87 percent of the time.
Surprised people in Brazil and Australia
At the same time, some snakes could survive due to the help of humans. In the year 2017, researchers from the Santa Maria University of Brazil found that a spider is eating a snake in a rocky place. Just a small spider killed a 15-inch snake. Which surprised everyone (Research on Spiders and Snakes). The name of this species of spiders is tarantula. Those who do not weave webs. Earlier in 2016, in Victoria, Australia, a redback spider made a large brown snake its prey. These are very poisonous snakes. But still get caught in the spider’s web.
