Gaston Browne, the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, claimed that fugitive diamond businessman Mehul Choksi went to Dominica with his girlfriend. However, a media report has stated that Choksi reached Dominica with someone else, not his girlfriend. But despite all this, it remains a mystery how the fugitive businessman fled from Antigua to Dominica and was arrested there.
India Today investigated whether Mehul Choksi used forged documents to reach Dominica. India Today verified two sets of documents of two passengers. According to these documents, these people traveled to Dominica twice within 45 days. According to the documents, the names of these two people are Gurjit Bhandal and Gurmeet Singh. Both went to St. Lucia in April and took advantage of the services of ‘Hackshaw Boat Charters Limited’. The documents show him as a citizen of Britain.
No record of Choksi’s visit to Antica from Antiga
At the same time, the same people reached Dominica in a boat after one and a half months. But the citizenship of one of these people was shown to be Indian. On the other hand, Mehul Choksi has no travel record of Dominica’s journey from Antiga and Barbuda. So in such a situation, the question arises that what was the purpose of showing a person an Indian? Ever since it has been learned that a company called ‘Cobra Tours’ was involved in taking Mehul Choksi to Dominica, both these names have been taken under surveillance.
Owner of ‘Cobra Tour’ called to give agent service to two people
It is to be noted here that Antiga officials say that Choksi entered the country illegally. At the same time, Choksi’s lawyers claimed that he was abducted and forcibly taken to Dominica. Andrew Cobra O’Brien, owner of ‘Cobra Tour’ based in Dominica, was called on 25 May. He was called so that he would provide agent services to the two people (mentioned in the news above) who landed at the port of Dominica. This is because the customs clearance rules have changed due to Corona and now people have to stay in Quarantine for 14 days.
The owner of ‘Cobra Tour’ got the clearance of the ship
Andrew said that he worked with the authorities and got both people to go to Dominica for clearance. He said that there is no question of illegal entry. There was no problem in entering the yacht that we had approved as an agent. There was no problem with the officials either. Andrew said, all the documents we showed were in good condition and all worked in harmony and everything went smoothly. When he approached us on reaching Dominica, there was absolutely no problem with the ship ‘Calliope of Arne’ when he was cleared as his agent.
Antigua PM’s statement seems to be contradictory
The owner of ‘Cobra Tour’ further said that Mehul Choksi has taken advantage of his services, it is absolutely wrong to say that and it is being misinformed to divert attention. Andrew said that he has neither seen Mehul Choksi nor has he ever met him. In such a situation, the question arises that if in fact Choksi was on the ship ‘Calliope of Arne’, it means that two other people traveling with him were men. In such a situation, the claim of the Prime Minister of Antiga that Choksi had reached Dominica with his girlfriend proves to be wrong. Andrew said that one person aboard the ship was a citizen of Britain of Indian origin, while the other was an Indian citizen. Both are named Gurjeet Bhandal and Gurmeet Singh.
The citizenship of both people raised many questions
The list of ‘Cobra Tours’ states that the traveling people were Indian and British, but documents from ‘Hackshaw Boat Charters Ltd’ show that both were British citizens. At the same time, Chris, owner of ‘Hackshaw Boat Charters Limited’ said that the two traveling people were in St. Lucia in April. He tried to go to Dominica, but was told to stay in Quarantine for 14 days, so he returned to St. Lucia and flew from there. But where he flew for, it is not known.
Did anyone else visit Dominica in the name of both people?
Chris says that his boat ‘Lady Anne’ has not sailed from St. Lucia since 13 April. So it seems that both people returned to the Caribbean within 45 days, so that they could travel to Dominica by boat and one of them showed his fake citizenship. Here also the question arises that if they had taken flight, then who traveled in their name? If Gurjit and Gurmeet traveled to Dominica, the Cobra Tour was not used by Mehul Choksi. At the same time, if the Cobra tour was not used then how did Mehul reach Dominica.
Questions are being raised on Choksi’s extradition
If indeed Cobra Tours were used, another major discrepancy is why one person was designated as a UK citizen in one document and an Indian in another document? Some people, including Antiga’s PM, insisted that Choksi is an Indian and has not completely renounced his Indian citizenship. So is it a plan to prove Choksi’s Indian nationality to ensure direct extradition to India? Or is it Choksi’s escape from the authorities of Antiga?
