Two people were killed and some were seriously injured in separate shootings in Portland, Oregon, on Saturday. Violent incidents have increased in this city in the last six months. Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler called the shootings a “pandemic” and said he would try to deploy more officers and resources to the Portland Police Bureau (Shootings in US by State). Apart from this, about 570 incidents of violence have taken place in the city so far this year, which is double compared to the same period last year. Portland Police Chief Chuck Lovell said it was too early to attribute Saturday’s shootings to gangs (Mass Shootings in US). He said, “In the last 38 hours, 13 people were injured in 11 incidents of firing. It is shocking. Lowell said that the first incident of shooting was reported late at 2.11 am. During this, seven people were injured, in which an 18-year-old teenager died in a hospital. Six others are expected to survive.
21 year old man dies
He said that shortly after this, the police received information about firing in another part of the city and four hours later there were two other incidents of firing, in which one person was killed and a woman was seriously injured. Police said the shooting happened Friday night after officers received a phone call that a man had ordered food at a McDonald’s restaurant in Gaithersburg, but he was not moving from the restaurant’s drive-thru lane. Gaithersburg is about 48 kilometers from Washington. A ‘drive through lane’ is a roadside passageway that allows people to place orders without getting out of their vehicle. He told that a policeman called the additional force after seeing the gun near the front seat of the accused’s car. Additional police officers secured the area and evacuated McDonald’s personnel.
