Glasgow City Council has scrapped faculty meal debt to assist struggling households amid the price of residing disaster.
It is hoped writing off the debt will ease monetary strain on those that simply miss out on assembly the standards free of charge faculty meals.
Families could have their debt cancelled whether it is above the equal of 1 month’s value of meals, the council stated.
The transfer is predicted to price round £300,000 and can be coated by council reserves.

Last month, the Scottish authorities launched a survey suggesting practically 60% of scholars went to mattress or faculty hungry – whereas 3% stated they all the time went to mattress hungry.
Councillor Christina Cannon, who proposed the measure, stated: “No pupil in our faculties will ever be refused a faculty meal, and by agreeing to wipe faculty meal debt we’re giving our households a little bit of respite in order that they will select to make use of the cash on different family payments and ease their worries.
“The stark reality is that children and young people are coming to school or going to bed hungry – pupils told us this in our recent health and wellbeing survey, and in 2023 no child or young person will go hungry in our schools.
“Our households deserve higher and that’s the reason we are going to do all the pieces in our energy to ship for Glasgow’s youngsters and younger individuals.”
The full council movement was unanimously backed by councillors on Thursday.
