Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday met Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon (68) in Dushanbe and discussed how to increase bilateral economic and development cooperation. Jaishankar is in Dushanbe to attend the ninth ‘Heart of Asia’ ministerial conference. He also congratulated President Rahman on behalf of President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Jaishankar tweeted that thanks to the President of Tajikistan for receiving me. Discussed on increasing our bilateral economic and development cooperation. His assessment regarding the Afghan situation was appreciated. Jaishankar said while talking to reporters that he discussed bilateral cooperation with President Rahman and the situation in Afghanistan.

Met with the defense minister of Tajikistan
He said that we discussed how to increase our economic, trade and investment cooperation. How to expand more in terms of capacity building, how to increase our political cooperation and how to work together on Afghanistan. He also expressed India’s solidarity with Tajikistan in the fight against COVID-19.

Later, he also met Tajikistan Defense Minister Colonel General Sherali Mirjo and discussed about increasing defense and security cooperation. It has a 1,400 km border with Tajikistan and Afghanistan and holds great geo-strategic importance to India. India has been providing military support to it under counter-terrorism cooperation. India has also developed the Ayani airbase near Dushanbe.

Jaishankar also met Kazakhstan Foreign Minister Mukhtar Taluverdi here on the sidelines of the ‘Heart of Asia’ conference and reviewed bilateral and international cooperation. He tweeted that he had a good meeting with the Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan, Mukhtar. Reviewed our bilateral and international cooperation fruitfully.
