Elon Musk extends helping hand to Ukraine
Russia has managed to gain control of parts of Ukraine. At the same time, internet and mobile towers have been destroyed in some areas. Because of this, people of Ukraine are having internet or network problems and they are not able to talk or contact with their loved ones. In such a situation, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Maykhailo Fedorov tweeted to Elon Musk and requested for help. In his tweet, he wrote that you (Elon Musk) want to build a house on Mars, but here Russia is trying to occupy Ukraine. Your rockets are successfully entering space, but Russia is targeting civilians in Ukraine with rocket launches.
After this, he requested Elon Musk to provide Starlink stations to the people of Ukraine for internet connectivity. Starlink is a network of satellites being launched by Musk under SpaceX. Through Starlink, the internet is delivered directly to the customers using any one satellite.
Only 10 hours after this tweet by the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Elon Musk tweeted that the Starlink service has been activated in Ukraine. If internet access is not accessible to every citizen of the country, Starlink will be able to ensure that at least the critical military operations in Ukraine continue.

Google bans Russian media
Google has a number of platforms that can be used by media organizations. However, in view of Russia’s aggression on Ukraine, Google on Saturday blocked the Russian state-owned media platform RT. Along with this, Google has banned the money from video advertising on other channels as well. Apart from this, Google also said that many media channels in Russia will not be able to use ad technology to earn money on their apps or websites. With this, they will neither be able to advertise on services like Gmail and Search nor will they be able to buy ads using Google tools.
Facebook also took this step
On Friday, Facebook’s parent company Meta also banned Russian media. Meta has restricted revenue from running ads on its platform. Meta said Facebook has banned four Russian media organizations and the company has refused to lift the ban despite Russia’s demands.
American also imposed sanctions
Many companies have taken steps against Russia on their own, while America has also announced sanctions on Russia. Restrictions have been announced in several Russian banks, due to which cardholders of these banks are no longer able to use digital payment gateways like Apple Pay and Google Pay. Under this, sanctions have been imposed in at least five banks, including VTB Group, Sovcombank and Otkritie, according to the Central Bank of Russia. With this, cardholders of these banks will no longer be able to use their cards abroad, nor will they be able to make digital payments to companies that are registered in countries that have imposed these restrictions.
