United Nations. The two countries targeted each other during the special emergency session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Monday amid the escalating crisis due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. On the one hand, Kyiv called on the United Nations to stop the ongoing aggression against Moscow, while on the other, Russia insisted that it did not initiate hostilities and wanted to end the war.
UNGA President Abdullah Shahid on Monday chaired an emergency special session on Ukraine of the 193-member body. Ukraine’s envoy Sergei Kislitsia read out his statement in Russian during the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
He said the General Assembly had to convene this emergency session in view of the looming threat to global security. Sergei said that the General Assembly should clearly raise its voice to the demand for Russia to stop its aggression. He said that Russia should immediately withdraw its forces from Ukrainian territories without any conditions.

Sergei said, “If Ukraine does not survive, then the United Nations will not survive. Let there be no confusion about this… Now we can save Ukraine, save the United Nations and democracy.”
Russian envoy to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia, in his address after the Ukrainian envoy, said that “the root of the current crisis” lies in the actions taken by Ukraine.
Nebenzia said, “I want to point out that Russia did not initiate hostilities. Hostilities were launched by Ukraine against its own residents, the residents of the Donbass and all those who are dissatisfied. Russia wants to end this war.” (agency)
