Destruction due to floods and landslides in Indonesia
Indonesia Flash Floods: In Indonesia, heavy rains led to floods and landslides, leaving 91 people dead and dozens missing. Meanwhile, there have been reports that ongoing rescue operations in the eastern Indonesian islands and East Timor have been disrupted due to various rain-related accidents, bridges and roads being damaged and lack of heavy equipment (Indonesia Flash Floods Today). This devastating tropical cyclone Seroja is also expected to reach southeast Asian countries.
It is moving south towards Australia. Leni Ola, the head of the local disaster agency, said that after midnight on Adonara Island in East Nusa Tenggara Province, mud fell from dozens of houses in Lamanelle village, killing people due to overpressure. The agency said that at least 70 people have died and 70 people have gone missing (Indonesia Floods Death Toll). 21 people have died in East Timor itself.
Power supply stalled
Agency spokesperson Raditiya Jati said that relief work has been disrupted due to stalled power supply in remote areas and mud and debris on the roads (Floods in Indonesia). He told that hundreds of people are engaged in relief work. At least nine villages have been affected due to floods and landslides and the route on five bridges has been disrupted. The spokesman said that efforts are being made to get accurate information about loss of life and property.
