Kiev: Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday announced a military operation in Ukraine, claiming it was aimed at protecting civilians. Putin said in a televised address that the action was being taken in response to threats posed by Ukraine.
He said that Russia’s goal is not to occupy Ukraine. Putin said Ukraine’s “regime” was responsible for the bloodshed. Putin warned other countries that any attempt to interfere with Russian action “will have consequences they have never seen before”.

On the other hand, the US representative to the UN said that we will continue to respond to Russia’s actions with unity. We have come here to ask Russia to stop, to return to our border, to send the troops back to the barracks. Bring your diplomats to the negotiating table… Russia has literally violated Ukraine’s sovereignty.
India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations T.S. Tirumurti said that we call for immediate de-escalation, the situation is on the verge of turning into a major crisis. If it is not handled carefully it can weaken the security. The safety of all the parties should be kept in mind. (with agency input)
