A police investigation is underway at a prestigious faculty after BBC presenter Nicky Campbell stated he had suffered abuse throughout his time there.
The broadcaster claimed he had been “badly beaten” at Edinburgh Academy within the Seventies.
Police Scotland stated the investigation was “live and ongoing” and a devoted crew was trying into the claims.
A spokesperson stated: “While the investigation of child abuse, particularly non-recent offences, can be complex and challenging, anyone who reports this type of crime can be assured that we will listen and we will investigate all reports, no matter when those offences occurred or who committed them.
“If you could have suffered abuse, or you recognize anybody who might have been the sufferer of kid abuse, then please name Police Scotland on 101.”
Campbell made the claims throughout an episode of his BBC podcast Different, saying the expertise had a “profound effect on my life”.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, the broadcaster stated: “I was badly beaten up at school by a teacher who was a leading light in the scripture union.
“My mom took it so far as she may and bought a grovelling apology from (the person concerned), however was primarily stonewalled and it was hushed up by the college.
“Those were different times and that has stayed with me all my life.”
The faculty stated it “deeply” regrets the allegations and “wholeheartedly” apologised to these concerned.
In a beforehand launched assertion, the college stated: “We have worked closely with the relevant authorities including Police Scotland with their inquiries and would like to provide reassurance that things have dramatically changed since the 1970s.
“The Academy has strong measures in place to safeguard youngsters on the faculty, with little one safety coaching now core to the ethos of the Academy.”
