Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday spoke to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and urged him to help rescue Indian students stranded in the war-torn country’s northeastern city of Sumy. During the talks that lasted for about 35 minutes, the two leaders also discussed the emerging situation in the Eastern European country of Ukraine. Official sources gave this information.
Around 700 Indian students are still trapped in Sumi due to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. According to sources, Prime Minister Modi appealed to the Ukrainian government to continue helping India’s efforts to rescue the stranded Indians in Sumi. Sources said the prime minister appreciated the ongoing direct talks between Russia and Ukraine. At the same time, Prime Minister Modi thanked Zelensky for the help extended by the Ukrainian government in evacuating Indians from Ukraine.

The talks between the two leaders come at a time when India is making every effort to evacuate its citizens, including students, from Ukraine, which is facing Russian attack. Today this is the second talks between the two leaders since the war between Russia and Ukraine broke out. Earlier, the two leaders had a phone conversation on 26 January. After the start of the war between the two countries, Prime Minister Modi has also spoken to Russian President Vladimir Putin twice.
