Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to Bangladesh ended on Saturday and he returned home. PM Modi said that he had a “meaningful meeting” with his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina. The two leaders reviewed bilateral relations and discussed ways to strengthen economic and cultural ties in the coming years. This is PM Modi’s first foreign visit since the Corona virus epidemic. He had a one-on-one conversation with Hasina first followed by delegation-level talks that lasted for about an hour. Modi tweeted, “I had a meaningful meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. We reviewed the entire scope of India-Bangladesh relations and discussed ways to strengthen economic and cultural relations in the coming time. ”
The two sides signed five MoUs in areas such as liaison, commerce, information technology and sports. Prime Minister Modi said, “India and Bangladesh signed a memorandum of understanding in disaster management, sports, youth, business, technology and other important areas. These will strengthen our development partnership and benefit the people of our countries, especially the youth. “Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi said that the two leaders discussed the progress made in health, business, connectivity, energy, development cooperation and other areas. That “It was accepted that terrorism is a threat to global peace and security, both sides reiterated their determination to eradicate all forms of terrorism,” said a joint statement issued after the talks between the two leaders.

Talk about sharing of the water of rivers
PM Modi expressed India’s appreciation for Bangladesh’s cooperation on security-related issues. Modi reiterated India’s sincere and sustained efforts to complete the Teesta water-sharing agreement through consultation with the stakeholders concerned. The joint statement said, “The two leaders directed their water resources ministries to complete the draft interim agreement on water sharing of six common rivers – Manu, Muhuri, Khowai, Gumti, Dharla and Dudhkumar at an early date.” Foreign Secretary Harshvardhan Shringla said that India has also requested to finalize a draft for water sharing of Feni river soon, which is pending from Bangladesh. According to the joint statement, the two leaders emphasized the importance of effective border management for a calm, stable and crime-free border. As a human aspect, Prime Minister Modi also handed over the symbolic key of 109 ambulances to his counterpart Hasina. He also presented a symbolic box to Hasina, which symbolizes 1.2 million doses of the anti-COVID-19 vaccine handed over to Bangladesh by India.
Hasina presented a coin of gold and silver issued to Modi on the occasion of the birth centenary of his father and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He also presented a silver coin issued to Modi on the occasion of the 50th birth anniversary of Bangladesh. The two leaders also inaugurated some projects digitally, including the inauguration of the three new border haats, the new passenger train Mithali Express along the Indo-Bangladesh border. It is the third passenger train between the two neighboring countries after the Maitree Express (Dhaka-Kolkata) and Bandhan Express (Khulna-Kolkata). The signed MoUs are related to disaster management, resilience and mitigation, cooperation between Bangladesh National Cadet Corps and National Cadet Corps, cooperation in the field of trade remediation measures etc. The two Prime Ministers also issued the India Bangladesh Friendship Ticket on the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
PM Modi participated in ‘Bangabandhu’ birth centenary celebrations
Modi’s visit coincides with the birth anniversary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the completion of fifty years of establishing diplomatic relations between India and Bangladesh, and the completion of fifty years of the Bangladesh Liberation War. Modi, who arrived here on Friday on a two-day visit, took part in the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Bangladesh Liberation War in Dhaka and the birth centenary celebrations of ‘Bangabandhu’. In the morning, Modi went to the centuries-old Jeshoreswari Kali temple in Ishwaripur village in southwest Bangladesh and prayed there. He announced that the community hall associated with the Bharat Mandir would be constructed as a cyclone shelter. This temple is one of the 51 Shaktipeeths.
After offering prayers at a temple in Orakandi, the birthplace of Harichand Thakur, the spiritual guru of the Matua community, the Prime Minister interacted with the people of the community. During this time he said that ‘Both India and Bangladesh want to see the progress of the whole world with their development and with their progress. Both countries want stability, love and peace in place of instability, terror and unrest in the world. Modi invited Hasina to visit India in 2022.
