According to the police, the incident took place late Monday night in the Central Town of Saltha in Faridpur district. Rumors spread in the area that police have been deployed to prevent the spread of Corona. Police beat up a person for breaking the corona rule in the local market. Thousands of angry villagers came out on the streets as soon as they got information about the incident. Police said that a group of people threw bricks at the police station and vandalized government offices. Two cars of government officials and one officer’s house were set on fire.
Three people shot, condition critical
A police spokesperson in Faridpur district said that after the attack on the police station, police personnel opened fire in defense of themselves. Another police officer Inspector Noor Alam Fakir also confirmed the incident. However, the police did not provide information about how many people were injured in the shootout. But Abdul Matin, a doctor at Faridpur Medical College Hospital, said that three people have been injured due to bullets, whose condition is serious. He said that a person’s ax has been shot, while bullets have been hit on the chest of one and both legs of a third person.
Government has implemented one week lockdown
In view of the increasing cases of Corona, a nationwide lockdown of seven days was announced in Bangladesh from Monday. In recent times, there has been an increase in the number of cases of infections and deaths. On Sunday, 7,087 people have been found infected with the virus. This was the highest number of infected infections in one day after the virus first surfaced in Bangladesh in March 2020. All domestic traffic services (bus, boat, train and flights) have been suspended. Apart from this, shops and malls have also been ordered to remain closed for a week.
