Myanmar people took to the streets against the coup
Myanmar Biggest City Yangon Protests: In Myanmar’s largest city, Myanmar Protests, people took out a protest march against military rule, which was mostly attended by the youth. In this nearly five-minute march, around 70 protesters raised slogans in support of the Civil Disobedience Movement. His march was against the overthrow of the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi in February and the establishment of military rule. Immediately after the coup, a large number of people took to the streets and demonstrated.
People have also demonstrated in other cities and towns including Mandalay, the country’s second largest city. Buddhist monks took out a march in Mandalay, while engineers, teachers, university students and members of LGBTQ groups demonstrated in Dawei. In this country, the army had imposed a one-year emergency in the country by overthrowing all the big leaders in the month of February (Current Situation in Myanmar). After which protests have been taking place here. The army took violent action against them to suppress the voice of the protesting people, in which about 769 people have died since February.
What reason did the army give?
A large number of people have also been arrested. People demand that democracy be restored by bringing back the elected government and the detained leaders should be released. While the military government alleges that there was fraud in the elections held in November (Myanmar Coup Explained). The Election Commission of India and the Supreme Court have also rejected this charge. Recently, there have also been reports that the ethnic groups which were fighting the government for decades of autonomy, have stood against the military government.
Fire at military base
A group called Karen captured the army base and set fire to it, while the Kachin National Army killed an army helicopter, also addressing the army as a ‘terrorist’ (Myanmar Ethnic Groups). In fact, the military government had bombed the sky in the Karen area controlled by the Karen group and attacked people in the Kachin area as well. After which both these rebel groups have also taken a stand against the military government. Let both these groups also have their own army.
