11 police officers held hostage by protesters during the Violent Protest released in Pakistan have been released. Officials said on Monday that police officers have been released as part of the French ambassador’s eviction from the country. Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) supporters took these officials hostage on Sunday during violent protests in Lahore.
In the video that was going viral on social media, it was seen that some of the released police officers are blood-soaked and injured. Bandages were tied around his head. Police later informally confirmed the video to be genuine. Pakistan Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said that the police officers were released on Monday morning after ‘conversations’ with the TLP. Let me tell you that Imran Khan had banned TLP last week as a terrorist organization.
Talks between TLP and the government will be held again on Monday
These police officers were taken hostage in a mosque in Lahore. This mosque is operated by TLP. At present there is a huge crowd of TLP supporters outside and inside this mosque. Rashid posted a video on Twitter saying, ‘conversation’ has started with TLP. So far, the first round of talks has been successfully completed. They have released 11 policemen who were taken hostage. Rashid said that the second round of talks will be held on Monday. However, the Pakistani minister did not say what would be discussed in it.
TLP-led anti-French protests in Pakistan
Earlier, the TLP warned the Imran government that they should expel the French ambassador by 20 April. French President Emmanuel Macron defended the cartoon created by Prophet Mohammed by the controversial magazine Sharley Hebdo. Subsequently, anti-French protests began in Pakistan, which was led by TLP. This led to fierce protests in major cities of the country. At the same time, the government arrested TLP leader Saad Rizvi to save the situation from worsening. But this worsened the situation further and the demonstrations took a violent form.
