Jahan Jab Mehsud, a lawyer for Pakistan Telecommunication Agency, said that the app has assured us that it will now use a filter and upload moderate content.
Tiktok is popular among Pakistan’s rural areas and youth
Earlier, the Chinese-owned company had said during another ban in October that it would focus on serving liberal content. Tiktok is very popular among the youth of Pakistan. Its most popularity is in the rural areas of the neighboring country. One of the advisors of Prime Minister Imran Khan had earlier blamed Tiktok for promoting the exploitation, objectification and sexual exploitation of young girls. However, the company denied these allegations.
Pakistan is criticized for controlling the Internet
At the same time, Tittock has welcomed this decision. Advocates of the ‘Freedom of Speech’ have long criticized the government’s censorship and control over Pakistan’s Internet and pre-electronic media. Last year, Pakistani regulators asked YouTube to immediately block all those videos. Those whom he believed were objectionable to the country. This decision of the officials was strongly criticized by the human rights activists.
