Pakistan Govt Tax Plan on Phone Calls: Under the burden of foreign debt, Pakistan is adopting new tricks to revive the economy. In this episode, the government has decided that whoever talks on the phone for more than five minutes, he will have to pay tax. According to the government, 75 paise will have to be paid for talking every five minutes. On the other hand, the country’s telecom industry has found many shortcomings in this scheme of the government. On Saturday, it has been clearly said by the industry that the proposed scheme of tax is not right due to many reasons.
Explaining the reason behind this, it has been said that this will cause problems to 98 percent of prepaid customers who take advantage of many offers. The new tax will put a stop to such offers, which are very convenient for the people. Due to the tax, people will cut the phone before the completion of five minutes and then call again (Tax on Phone Calls in Pakistan). By cutting the call, people can easily save themselves from paying tax. In such a situation, the hands of the government will remain empty. The additional tax will become a complication for the telecom operators and will prove to be a problem for the public.
What did Finance Minister Shaukat Tareen say?
During the discussion on the budget, Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin had said in Parliament that those who talk on the phone for more than five minutes, then they will have to pay 75 paise tax. But there will be no tax on SMS and mobile internet (Imran Khan Government Tax Plan). Earlier, in the Finance Bill 2021-22, it was said to impose tax at the rate of Re 1 on those who talk on the phone for more than three minutes. The bill also talked about imposing a tax of five rupees on one GB internet usage and 10 paise tax on one SAS.
Opposition to tax on Internet-SMS
However, after the budget conference, Tarin clearly said in the matter, ‘At this time we are not going to do anything like this.’ On the proposal of additional tax, he said that Prime Minister Imran Khan and the cabinet have not liked this idea. However, it has been said to impose tax on talking for more than five minutes. This is not happy with the telecom industry as well as the people. On the other hand, if the Imran government of Pakistan, which is in debt, wants to collect money from this step, then it is also difficult, the reasons behind which the telecom industry has enumerated.
