Relations between India and Pakistan have mostly been poor. Intelligence agencies of both countries keep adopting various tactics to harm each other on their behalf. In that too, Pakistan’s ISI intelligence agency’s hatred against India is well known. In such a situation, the love of India of any ISI official can be shocking but now it is reported that Pakistan itself has named former chief of its country’s intelligence agency ISI, Asad Durrani as a spy of India.
The Defense Ministry has requested not to remove Durrani’s name from the Exit Control List (ECL). The Defense Ministry has said in a court filing that it has strong evidence that Durrani had a relationship with the Indian Intelligence Agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) since 2008.
In fact, Durrani, along with former RAW chief Amarjeet Singh Dulat, wrote a book called The Spy Chronicles: Raw, ISI and the Illusion of Peace. After the publication of this book, Pakistani Military Intelligence wrote a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs requesting to keep Durrani’s name in ECL. This decision was challenged by Durrani in Islamabad High Court in 2019.
Let me tell you that in 2018, the Pakistani army summoned Durrani and accused him of violating the military code of conduct due to writing the book with the former Chief of Raw. On Durrani’s plea in the court, the Defense Ministry has said in its reply filed in the court that the former ISI chief has been named in the no fly list because he has been involved in anti-national activities and has a relationship with the Indian intelligence agency.
