The story of a web series named ‘Narcos’ on Netflix is about a man who rose to such heights in the world of crime that he was included in the list of the ten richest people in the world. The person whom the enemies gave betel nut to the killers to kill, but they could not even pluck his hair. The person in whose name thousands of deaths are recorded in history. Today we will tell you the story of the biggest and richest criminal in history, the most successful drug mafia and the main character of ‘Narcos’, ‘Pablo Escobar’.
Pablo was born in 1949 in a poor farming family in the city of Rionegro, Colombia. This poverty of the family became the reason for his entry into the world of crime. The family did not have money to educate Pablo. In such a situation, Pablo started committing petty crimes to arrange money. These included digging stones from the grave and selling them. Gradually, he also got involved in serious crimes like the supply of banned cigarettes and ganja and car theft.
Pablo did his first kidnapping at the age of 20. He kidnapped a wealthy executive of Madeleine and demanded $100,000 in ransom. According to today, about 6 lakh dollars i.e. more than 40 million. At such a young age, Pablo had become a millionaire. At the age of 26, he had a meeting with a drug mafia from Madeleine. During this he murdered the mafia and from here Pablo Escobar stepped into the business of drugs.
A year later i.e. in 1976, he married Maria Victoria. Maria was 15 years old and both had two children – Juan and Manuela. Pablo’s way of committing crimes was different from others. Pablo’s men used to ask government officials – ‘Plata or Plomo?’ ie ‘Silver or lead?’ This question meant either taking a bribe from Pablo or death. During that time thousands of people were murdered and many officers became rich by taking money from Pablo. It is said that at that time this question had turned into a creepy joke all over Colombia.
Pablo’s name was included in the rich people of the world. He used to smuggle cocaine. Pablo’s brother Roberto Escobar told in his book ‘In the Accountant’s Story’ that Pablo used to smuggle cocaine by hiding in the tires of the plane. For this, he used to pay a hefty amount to the pilots, which was up to $ 5 lakh per flight. Roberto Escobar has made shocking revelations about Pablo’s wealth. According to him, a thousand dollars was spent every week on the rubber band used in the bundle of Pablo’s notes.
Pablo’s warehouse was filled with only cash. Not only this, a lot of cash was also buried in the pits under the ground. A story about Pablo’s richness is very famous that once his daughter was feeling cold, she lit a fire, in which she burnt two million dollar notes i.e. about 13 crore rupees. It is said that he had become so successful in his business that his one day earning was 400 crores.
After falling behind America, Pablo joined politics. Here too he proved successful but he was forced to give up violence and surrendered in 1991. He was kept in the prison ‘La Cathedral’, where all kinds of facilities were available for Pablo. It was not that easy to kill Pablo. To kill him, the Colombian police formed a special branch ‘Search Block’.
On 2 December 1993, during a shootout, Pablo and his bodyguards were killed when they tried to escape onto the roof. However, it is not clear whether he died of police bullets or himself. Pablo was very popular among the poor because he used to do things like distributing money among the poor, building houses for them. For this reason, 25 thousand people attended the last visit of Pablo Escobar, who is considered to be the biggest criminal in history.
