Pakistan on Sunday started relaxing the Covid Restrictions imposed on transport and commercial activities. To prevent the virus from spreading during Eid holidays, it was banned for a week. This relaxation in restrictions is being given even when the infection rate of Corona Virus in the country increased to 7.83 percent on Sunday, which had come down to about five percent a day earlier.
This was the first time in two months that the infection rate was so low. All businesses and public transport were banned from May 10 to 16 to prevent the movement of people during the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday to prevent the virus. The National Command and Operation Theater (NCOC) decided to resume public transport from Sunday.
Lockdown proved effective
Restrictions on transport have been relaxed so that people from far away places can return and start visiting offices and other duties from Monday when business institutions will also open. The lockdown has proved effective in preventing the virus as only 1,531 new cases were reported on Saturday and the infection rate was just 5.8 percent, which is the lowest since March 8. The government has also started registration for vaccination of people 30 years and above.
There will be a ban on tourism
However, the NCOC said on Sunday that the ban on tourism in Pakistan will continue indefinitely. The forum has issued a statement praising the people across the country for cooperating in connection with the SOP issued on the Eid holidays. The statement said that it has been decided to reduce the lockdown restrictions from May 16. As per the new guidelines, it will be allowed to work with SOPs in different areas.
What do the new guidelines say
Public transport will be operated with occupancy of 50 per cent, while railways will continue to operate with 70 per cent. Markets and shops will be able to open from morning till 8 in the night. The offices will work with ‘Work from Home’ of 50 per cent employees. The statement said that NCOC will review the existing restrictions on May 19 and will increase or reduce them according to the ground situation.
