Addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Monday, Home Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said that Shehbaz’s name is in the Exit Control List (ECL) after the approval of the federal cabinet. After being released from jail last month, Shehbaz wanted to go to London for a medical examination. The Home Minister said that Shehbaz has not submitted any medical documents for foreign travel nor told about the treatment of his illness. Last week, Shehbaz challenged the inclusion of his name in the travel blacklist and once sought permission to go abroad for treatment.

The top PML-N leader said that I am a cancer patient and I have undergone treatment in New York and London. I could not undergo treatment for more than seven months because I was in jail. He said that based on the investigation report done in the jail, immediate treatment is needed. Ahmed said that Shahbaz had ‘given bail to his brother Nawaz but instead of bringing him back, he was trying to escape on his own.

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhary also said that after completing cabinet approval and legal formalities, Shahbaz’s name has been included in the flight ban (no fly) list. Meanwhile, criticizing the government’s move, PML-N leader Azam Nazir Tarar said that the party would file a contempt case of the court, as the government is not allowing Shahbaz to go out of the country even after a court order.
