The investigative agencies of the Government of India probing the case of Mehul Choksi are going to present their arguments in the court of Dominica regarding the extradition of the fugitive businessman on Wednesday.

A hearing is going to be held today in a Dominica court regarding fugitive diamond trader Mehul Choksi, who scammed Punjab National Bank (PNB). The court can give a decision to extradite Choksi to India or to send him back to Antigua and Barbuda. Meanwhile, a letter from Antigua Prime Minister Gaston Browne has made headlines. Actually, it has been said in this letter that the fugitive businessman had hidden his citizenship related information.
At the same time, the investigative agencies of the Government of India probing the case of Mehul Choksi are going to present their arguments in the court of Dominica on Wednesday regarding the extradition of the fugitive businessman. Many heads of the country including the CBI are engaged in the investigation of this case. The investigating agencies will tell the court that till now the Home Ministry has not canceled Choksi’s citizenship and he has not even handed over his passport. Investigating agencies want Choksi’s case to be saved from getting caught in the legal trap, so that the fugitive can be brought to India at the earliest. The team of investigating officers has been sent to Dominica via business plane.
What did Gaston Brown write in his letter?
Antigua PM Brown wrote a letter to Mehul Choksi on 14 October 2019. It was said in this letter that Choksi did the work of hiding facts related to citizenship. Apart from this, presented his case in a wrong way. Brown wrote, ‘I give an order, in accordance with Act 8 of the Citizenship Act Cap 22 of Antigua and Barbuda, that you (Mehul Choksi) be deprived of citizenship of Antigua and Barbuda, because you have deliberately suppressed the facts is.’ The PM of Antigua further writes, ‘I also advise you to have the right to investigate under Act 10 of the Citizenship Act of the country and to get your legal representation in the investigation. You have to respond to this notice within a month.
Choksi’s brother engaged in bribing Dominica’s opposition leader
On the other hand, Mehul Choksi’s brother Chetan Chinubhai Choksi reached Dominica on 29 May. After this he had a two-hour meeting with Dominica’s opposition leader Lennox Linton. During this meeting, Chetan promised that if he raises this issue in Parliament, he will be given donations for the elections. It has been claimed in media reports that Chetan has also given two lakh dollars i.e. around Rs 1.5 crore as token money to Linton. At the same time, Linton has targeted the country’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, alleging the alleged kidnapping of Mehul Choksi.
Who is Chetan Chinubhai Choksi?
Chetan Chinubhai Choksi is the elder brother of the fugitive businessman. He runs a company named Diminco NV. This company is a subsidiary of Digico Holdings Limited based in Hong Kong. It is claimed about Diminco NV that it is the largest retailer of Diamond and Jewelery. It has been told in media reports that Chetan was also seen in London in 2019 during a court hearing of nephew Nirav Modi. He was seen standing outside the court.
