More than 210 people were injured in a collision of two LRT trains in Kuala Lumpur on Monday evening. Videos of the incident on social media, broken glass panels and pictures of many blood-soaked passengers are becoming viral. Union Territory Minister Annuar Musa tweeted that initial reports suggest that an LRT train carrying Passengers collided with another LRT train which was ’empty’, which led to the accident.
He told that the train full of passengers was traveling from Ampang station. The incident happened under the KLCC building. There is no news of people dying in it but many people have been injured. The operator of the Kelana Jaya line, AskRapidKL, tweeted that an incident occurred on the line, which included train numbers 40 and 81.

47 passengers seriously injured
The operator said that all the injured passengers have been rushed to the platform. Emergency aid and rescue operations are in progress. Dang Wangi OCPD Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Zainal Abdullah said that the incident could be due to ‘miscommunication in the operation center’ of the LRT line. He said that we will further investigate whether the cause of the breakdown was negligence or something else because it involves public safety and many people have been injured.
Task force will be formed for investigation
Talking to reporters, Transport Minister Wei Ka Seong said that this collision is the first accident in 23 years of LRT operations in Malaysia. He said that the ministry will set up a task force and a panel to investigate the causes of the accident. Tomorrow, the Director General of the Land Public Transport Agency will present the initial report to me and in two weeks, this task force will present the inquiry report to me. He said that in two weeks we will be able to know what is the reason for this accident.
Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yasin wrote on Twitter that the accident was ‘serious’. He said that the transport ministry and the railway company have been instructed to conduct a ‘thorough investigation to identify the cause of the accident’. He said that ‘strict action will be taken immediately’. He said that the concerned parties have been instructed to ensure that those who are injured get ‘full treatment’.
