The United Nations has warned of a possible war on a large scale due to the growing conflict between Israel and Palestine. Fresh violence is taking place in Jerusalem (Jerusalem) due to rising tension. But this struggle has been going on for a really long time. In such a situation, let us explain in detail the dispute between Israel and Palestine.
When did the controversy start?
The Ottoman Empire was defeated in the First World War. After this, Britain took control of Palestine under it. This land was mainly occupied by Arab and Jewish people. Although Arabs were the majority here. Gradually tensions between the Arabs and the Jewish people began to increase and the international community held Britain responsible for establishing homes for the Jewish people in Palestine.
What happened before and after World War II?
Between 1920 and 1940, a large number of Jewish people started arriving in Palestine. One of the reasons behind this was that the Jewish people had to face persecution in Europe. The second reason was that the Jewish people wanted to build a new house after the Holocaust. Because of this people started moving from Europe to Palestine. But in Palestine, this led to increasing violence between Jews, Arabs and British. In 1947, the United Nations announced the partition of Palestine into a Jewish and an Arab state. Jerusalem was made an international city. This plan was accepted by the Jewish leaders but the Arabs never accepted it nor implemented it.
How did Israel become?
Britain left Palestine in 1948 and Jewish leaders announced the creation of Israel. The Palestinian people opposed it and then there was a war between the two sides. During this war, many neighboring Arab countries attacked Israel. Because of this, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians fled their homes. Palestinians remember it as ‘Al Naqba’ or ‘disaster’. The war ended in 1949 and a ceasefire was announced. At the same time, the land occupied by Jordan after the war was known as Gaza occupied by the West Bank and Egypt. Jerusalem was divided into Israel from the west and Jordan from the east. Due to no agreement between the two sides, they keep blaming each other.
How is the map of Palestine?
Most Palestinian refugees and people live in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. They can also be seen living in Jordan, Syria and Lebanon. These people have not been allowed to return to their homes. Actually, the reason behind this is that Israel has said that it will cause huge loss to the state. Israel still occupies the West Bank, although it has definitely come out of Gaza. In the last 50 years, Israel has established many settlements in the West Bank. At present, about six lakh Jews live in these settlements. Palestine says that it is illegal under international laws, while Israel denies it.
What is happening now?
Turning the pages of history shows that this is not the first time that tension has increased between Israel and Palestine. Gaza is ruled by the Palestinian extremist organization Hamas. This organization has fought the war with Israel many times. Palestinians living in Gaza and the West Bank say they are suffering because of Israeli actions and sanctions. Tensions escalated during Ramadan, which began in mid-April this year, and clashes broke out between the Palestinian people and the Israeli police. Threats to expel Palestinian families from East Jerusalem have also increased tensions.
What are the main issues?
There are several major issues that Israel and Palestine need to find a solution to end the conflict. The first issue is whether a Palestinian state can exist independently of Israel. At the same time, other issues include whether Jerusalem should be shared by Israel and Palestine and whether Jewish settlements should be removed. However, peace talks have been going on for more than a quarter of a century, but the conflict has not been resolved yet.
Can there be a solution soon?
There can be no immediate end nor any solution to the conflict. Former US President Donald Trump proposed the most recent peace plan. But the Palestinians rejected it unilaterally and being in favor of Israel. A peace plan will work only if both parties agree to resolve or compromise on major issues. However, until this happens, unfortunately there is no possibility that the tension will not escalate.
